There are two unique shops located at Lincoln’s New Salem. The Railsplitter Gift Shop is located at the front of the village next to the Visitors Center and adjacent to the snack bar. Half of the store is devoted to books covering Abraham Lincoln, early Illinois history, local history, frontier living, period crafts, and children’s books. The other half of the shop is filled with souvenir items such as T-shirts, mugs, postcards, jewelry, etc. Also included is a variety of period related and locally made items such as goat’s milk soap and redware pottery.
The second shop, The Village Museum Shop, is located in the old stone 1930’s museum building in the center of the village behind the Rutledge Inn. This shop specializes in handcrafted items such as period clothing, pottery, period teas, jams and jellies, lye soap, candles, lanterns, period toys and games, and period related home décor.
These shops are owned and operated by the New Salem Lincoln League, a registered 501(c)3 organization.
All proceeds go directly to the NSLL to support the village.
