Lincoln’s New Salem State Historic Site will celebrate the Bicentennial of the State of Illinois with a Commemoration of the 1918 Lincoln-Salem Pageant. The original pageant was presented in the village a hundred years ago to recognize the centennial of the state of Illinois and New Salem’s role in influencing Lincoln’s life.
This event will not be a “re-enactment” of the event, because the original was designed to resonate with popular culture of 1918. Instead this will be a “commemoration” of that event designed to celebrate Illinois’s bicentennial and realization of the reconstruction that still remained a dream in 1918. Join us for scenes presented throughout the village!
